Re: [USA] Amazon.com LEGO Star Wars Death Star - $333.49
I have bought 3rd party off Amazon and eBay for years. Every time I buy off eBay, it hold my breath unless it is a high feedback AND top rated seller....otherwise I wait for the smoky boxed in tampon box with 'near new' status.
Paypal's investigation system is decent, but I've had to chargeback multiple times after paypal recovers 'partial funds' only.
Whenever I had to file an AZ claim, I would get it back without issues.
Unfortunately both sites have scammers on them. Amazon clearly is easier, investigates sellers, and holds a quality control much higher than eBay. I've never received a crappy boxed item from Amazon sellers.
I personally stayed away from this seller because it just didn't seem quite right.

Paypal is horrible. Tells you its against their policy to file a chargeback without letting them know first. They're not the bank and shouldn't be able to start holding your money and controlling what you do with your banks/credit card companies. ebay and paypal are the same company, hence, they ban pure credit cards, google checkout or other payment services. No competitators means up to them to charge as much fees as they want.stevenli wrote: Paypal's investigation system is decent, but I've had to chargeback multiple times after paypal recovers 'partial funds' only.

I too find Amazon security much better and safer compared to ebay. If the item is sold by a third party seller but fulfilled by Amazon, you get even more coverage.

I don't think this issue was really an Ebay vs Amazon, because ebay is really just second hand sellers... I think we were saying via Amazon we would rather order it directly through Amazon rather than an Amazon reseller to avoid any kind of issues at all.
I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.

I disagree. The situation people were comparing Amazon 3rd party sellers vs eBay sellers (3rd party by design). Amazon selling directly is a no brainer. Fulfilled by Amazon is nearly the same (some minor differences) as directly from Amazon.

To each their own in the view area. I was commenting previously that I personally do not purchase anything from Amazon unless it's direct through Amazon. Now with ebay, it's ALWAYS a crap shoot, you just minizmize your risk by knowing not to order anything from a seller in Hong Kong.stevenli wrote:I disagree. I highly disagree that that a reseller is nearly the same as direct from Amazon.... they are different beasts.

The neg's are starting to pile up for Rae-n-Ray's. http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/seller/at ... ive=390957" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Once things start to resolve (via amazon or credit card charge backs) about this scam, I'd be interested to hear stories from TnB-ers. I'm still amazed that the scammers tried this on Amazon. Hope it works out well for everyone here in the end.

Filed a A to Z claim over the phone today as they wouldn't let me do it last time.

As I said before, I will never buy from Amazon third party ever again. The wait timeto file a claim and lack of attention from them after many calls and email from people poiting out this scam fell on deaf ears. Not good.
Edit:
From Amazon:
We're writing to let you know we processed your refund of $333.49 for your Order 105-1987788-455XXX from Rae-N-Ray's Toy Box.

Wanted to post update. Unfortunately the deal turned out as scam as many thought, but as I said before - ZERO risk. Amazon issued full refund :)

Thanks for the feed back CrazyRus, pterribilis. It's good to know that amazon is this straightforward with the resolution. (and helps explain with amazon marketplace prices are soooo high).CrazyRus wrote:Wanted to post update. Unfortunately the deal turned out as scam as many thought, but as I said before - ZERO risk.
