Is anyone having issues with the peeron site?

Post by countryboy » Fri Mar 30, 2012 11:56 am

Today especially, it is extremely slow, to the point that it is timing out. No issues with any other sites. Just Peeron.

Are there any other sites out there that can help you map pieces to sets?

Cheers

From my experience Peeron typically has a fairly low band width which makes things drag.

I'd go with mooslug suggestion. Bricklink has just as robust of a Catalog as Peeron. It may take a little getting used to, but you can do more with it in the long run so it's worth the investment in time.

Now if you're just trying to look up sets and want a simple "Looking Up" type search engine I'd go with Brickset. But I know I have started relying on Bricklink for my information on all the details of a set.

Yeah, i am reversing my lookups (I.E. start with a part number and work towards the set)....

I have tried Bricklink a few time now and it does the trick as well so i'll going that direction here on in. Too bad too.. Peeron was well laid out and was very effective. The speeds though were just getting to me :)

Thanks all for the suggestions.

You know if you want to browse a bit more like Peeron on Bricklink you can.

Satart by clicking the "Catalog" tab that's located right under the search box.

Then go to the link labeled "Sets." It's the first link in the box labeled "Browse Catalog."

This might be easier looking things up especially if you don't have a set number to work with.

Hope that helps. :)

It should ultimately take you to this page. Here's the link if you're having problems finding it.

Yup, been there, however like i had said, i am starting from a part number. From that i see what sets it came in. From that i try to determine which of those sets i have (Or partly have) within a hoard say that i have bought... With peeron, i could look up the part number and it would provide which sets it came from, right down to the color match.

I haven't been able to easily do that in Bricklink. Not saying that BL is not awesome. It is!!! But for this particular application, the flow worked very well on Peeron.

Oh, now I got you.

In that case there is the "View Sets" link in a piece's catalog entry just to the right of its picture. That gives you a list of all the sets it comes in and all the colors. Plus you can further break it down by year of release.

There are several ways to get to a part's Catalog Entry. The most generic way is to click on its pic then follow the link on the pic that says "Catalog Entry.

Then look to the right of the pic on this page and find the "View Sets" link. It will say the part came in X number of sets then give the link to what I think you want.

From there it's just finding the right color and clicking the "Inv" link right next to the set numbers to see what other pieces are in the set.

And if you have problems finding a part number, you can also go to "Catalog" then "Parts" and browse for the piece which will take you to a Catalog Entry page.

Is that the type of thing you needed?

Hope it helps. :)
