Lego store visit

Post by ncbarrett » Mon Feb 14, 2011 2:09 pm

Finally went to the Local Lego store sunday.
Was a little disappointed they didn't have any of the new city sets.
I expected they would.
Didn't even see an empty space for them
Why wouldn't they have the newest sets that have been out for awhile?

On a good note, my daughter wanted to build a minifigure.
So while she was deciding what to make her figure look like, i dug through the parts and I was quite happy to find Blacktron torsos in the mix.
Made 2 of them, since my daughter made her own minifig up.
They didn't have any black helmet though, so will have to use the ones i already have.

Is there a standard set of parts they use, or does each store get different lots?
Am wondering because might end up at another LEGO store this summer, and would like to get more Blacktron torsos.
I have inoperable cancer and am unable to work. Any gifts would be appreciated. Thank you!

Every store is different. I go to two stores. One in West Nyack and the other one in Paramus NJ. From what I was told, the PaB wall parts are filled by what Lego ships them. They have no control of what they get. Right now NJ has lots of flower stems and tree leaves. They also have tires and wheels from the mini racers. I still have 16 boxes to fill. Going there tonight.

The build-a-minifigure "inventory" seems pretty hit or miss at each store. I went to two different stores last week and the parts were fairly similar at both. The Lego calendar is advertising "new parts" coming this week, I think. I noticed an orange torso that had a white flower/neckline which is a female that I hadn't seen before. They also had a white torso w/ a sweatshirt/hoodie print that seemed newer (think that the boy in the City house has it).

The accessories were lame at both...gold or black goblets, yellow mugs, a few swords and shovels. I'm hoping for some newer stuff.

So that being said, I don't think there is much of a pattern or schedule or anything.

They had both of those torsos, so maybe they got the new stock already.

When we had a grand re-opening there were all the new sets. 20 days later a lot were gone. I think these sets just dissapear and re-appear-they should be fully stocked sooner or later, but due to their newness a lot have been bought and they need a new stock. And are these actual Blacktron torsos or the one from SPIII? Either way, that's incredibly lucky (although the price is far too great).

Looks like the one from SPIII, Rench.
Wouldn't have bought them, but daughter wanted to make a minifig.

Don't ever expect anything super rare in the build a minifig section. You can occasionally get lucky (I found a Ninja minifigure head from the original ninja line) but most of it is just plain old stock from the excess of the sets that are around right now, usually the city sets. This is why most of the stuff you find seems to be city/town themed, including the accessories.

When I went in September, the minifig bins had a nice selection of heads and torsos. I gawked at the price point. At the time you could make 3 minifigures for 9.99. I like the idea-I had hoped for the price to see some cooler pieces. In the pick a brick section on the Lego website you can make your own minifig for about 1.75 with some of the patterns being the same as the ones I saw in the bins. That's 2 more minifigs. Then, all you have to do is do it during one of their free shipping times.
